After breakfast, we pick you up at your hotel in Lijiang.
We will leave for Tiger Leaping Gorge, the spectacular canyon on the Yangtze river. It is one of the deepest canyons in the world, with a maximum depth of around 3,800 meters. We first drive 100 km southwards to the beginning of the gorge.
After lunch in Qiaotou, we start hiking through Naxi villages and beautiful nature. Total distance is 8.5 km, with 800 meters of climbing.
We arrive at our hotel after about 5 hours, rewarded with amazing views over the Jade Dragon Snow Mountains. After some well-deserved rest, we then have a great dinner cooked by our Naxi hosts.
Today is an easy day compared to yesterday: we cover a distance of around 9 km, mostly descending (410m). And the scenery is even more amazing.
After lunch down in the gorge, we then continue north by car to the end of the gorge, where we reach the ferry that takes us across the Yangtze. Our destination tonight is Daju. known for its magnificent views of both Yulong and Haba Snow Mountains.
From Daju we first drive through some areas inhabited by Yi people, in order to then reach Wumu, a traditional 800-year-old Naxi village. Our accomodation for tonight is the beautiful Huahuasei Lodge, run by a Belgian lady and her Naxi husband.
Free afternoon in Wumu: relax at the lodge, walk around the village freely, or learn about the local Naxi customs and Dongba culture directly from one of the village shamans.
Spend the night at Huahuasei Lodge.
Day 4 morning: In the morning we hike down from the village down to the Yangtze river, here we take a boat to Baoshan stone village upstream. Baoshan is a fortified village on the top of a large rock overhanging the Yangtze. It's was used as a hiding place by the Naxi to protect themselves from raiding mountain tribes.
